DOM – It’s not just a fashion show. It’s a spectacle!
DOM showcases modern, forward-thinking apparel design, crafted to be relevant today and tackle the challenges of the future.
Can design be trendy – yet endure beyond another passing seasonal hype? At DOM we believe it can.
DOM is a performance dedicated to modern clothing design, bringing together a diverse lineup of distinct and ambitious designers from Estonia. Each brand’ concept will be revealed through an unique, site-specific encounter – an inspiring event and an immersive entertainment experience.
Clothing and accessories are the products closest to our bodies, and as such, we place countless subtle yet essential demands on them. We all have garments in our wardrobes that always “feel right” to wear, are handy to care for, and fit seamlessly into our lifestyles for years to come, regardless of passing trends. At the same time, clothing should enable us to live fully — both in everyday life and when taking on extraordinary challenges.
These are the garments that represent the essence of clothing design the best.
The technologies and approaches shaping clothing design are becoming increasingly diverse, combining historical and time-tested techniques with visionary methods and innovative ways of thinking. At the same time the global problems resulting from past decisions, overproduction, outdated perceptions and, let’s be honest, marketing dogmas that promote illogical values and cultural ideals alien to local context must be addressed. In spite of all this, designers keep the desire of creating a world of beauty and joy.
Existing materials become the starting point for creating new objects.
Traditional craftsmanship, refined and proven over centuries, continue to endure because it is aesthetically compelling, resource-conscious, distinctive and rich in meaning.
A distinctive style matters more than a passing trend.
Alongside products created in a moment of inspiration and designed for instant popularity, the carefully considered design solutions are gaining ever greater importance — solutions that last longer and enhance the quality of our lives.
Yet even when it comes to these and many other sustainable solutions, the responsibility ultimately lies with us. We ourselves choose what to purchase, what to put on our bodies, what knowledge and values to embrace, what kind of quality to bring into our lives and we allow to exist in the world.
What kind of products will we pass on to those who come after us? What kind of a mark will we leave to the world?
Use with love and care. Improve. Preserve. Repair. Reuse. Pass it on.
Clothing for beauty and for life.
For beauty, but also for life.
Not only for beauty, but for life.
Clothing, first and foremost, for life.
And, at the same time, for beauty.
For beauty. For life. For generations.
The new Mekoome collection is about the freedom to create and the joy of making.
The concept, technique and collection was developed over the course of a year and a half. All the sweaters were hand-knitted on needles by the brand’s designer, Larissa Kondina. After years of working in an atelier, Larissa returned to the roots of knitting, choosing knitting needles and intuition as her primary creative tools.
For the brand, hand knitting is one of the most radical forms of slow fashion: it offers almost limitless freedom to work with colour, texture and form. Every pattern can be reproduced anywhere in the world and using any type of yarn, turning the process of creating a sweater into an independent creative practice. Designing knitting patterns and charts has become a new direction in the brand’s work.
Each sweater is developed intuitively, like a painting, where every small ball of wool has its own place within the whole. Larissa boldly combines different colours, textures and types of yarn, allowing the material itself to guide the further course of the work.
Many pieces are knitted from leftover yarn and yarn unraveled from second-hand garments, giving these materials a new life and making them part of a new work. Exceptionally high-quality natural yarns with character such as fine mohair, alpaca etc are used as well. The natural yarns reveal their texture, colour and form, while the combination of different materials makes each sweater unique.
This process has become a metaphor for the designer herself. After a period of creative stagnation, as she had stated herself, returning to hand knitting helped her reconnect with the material, the technique, and the process of creation. In this way, returning to the roots became a new beginning for Mekoome.

Kairi Getman is a textile and fashion designer whose work brings together material sensitivity, long-standing tailoring experience and a considered approach to slow fashion. Her brand KAIRI GETMAN is based on the relationship between material and cut. The starting point of the design process is not only a visual idea, but often the fabric itself, with its texture, colour and potentiality to become something new.
KAIRI GETMAN focuses on natural fibres, botanical dyes and the reinterpretation of existing materials and items into new garments. Fabrics dyed with spruce cones, oak leaves and other natural materials carry irregularity, depth and uniqueness that industrial dyeing often cannot offer. For the brand, repurposed materials are not a compromise, but a source that guides the cut, construction and detail of each piece.
At the DOM fashion show, KAIRI GETMAN presents a further development of its current design language: mostly unisize garments where traditional craft techniques, texture-making, fabric dyeing and contemporary fashion design come together as a whole.
The collection seeks a balance between practicality and artistic aesthetics. The garments are reserved yet rich in detail, highlighting the surface, cut and colour of the material.
Words of thanks: Kairi warmly thanks everyone who has contributed to the development of the collection and presentation: photographer Lisette Laanoja, leather designer Angela Aavik, social media specialist Emily-Hestia Palmet, Kennedy’s Irish Pub in Tallinn Old Town, Kaia Grete Kukkur, the models, supporters, friends and devoted followers. The deepest thanks go to her family, her husband and children, whose support and belief in her have carried her throughout this process.
